Sundance day 1: Private party & we should have packed light
The road up to the cabin. That's not even the bad part!
We really should have packed light but of course we never do. The house was a mess with clothes and shoes everywhere! We got off to a rough start and the animals in the house weren’t making things any easier. The stray dog we have at the house knocked me down the stairs first thing this morning and I was still sore from sleeping in the bath tub (I’ll explain that later), then the neighbor calls to say the stupid cat climbed up on their roof and went down their chimney. We got on the road later than we wanted to so we almost didn’t make it on time to our model orientation meeting that I was supposed to be in charge of. We did get up there just in time though. Parking during Sundance is generally $20 a day (so if you come for a visit you want to find cheap alternatives) and we didn’t want to pay it so we parked in this lot that mainly locals park in and it’s free. Then a shuttle comes to pick you up and take you to main street. I felt really dumb because we weren’t sure where the shuttle was and we see this guy standing at the edge of the parking lot so we pulled up and asked him if he knew where the shuttle was. Literally RIGHT next to his head was a giant red sign that said SUNDANCE SHUTTLE lol He was really nice but Ber and Brooke who were in the car with me couldn’t stop laughing at me. So we get on the shuttle and ride it up to main street where all the action is. Riding the shuttle during the day is not nearly as fun as riding it at night. After all the parties everyone crams on the shuttle and they are all in party mode. Last year the bus was really full and some guy pulled out a flask and was offering me drinks from various bottles and flasks he had in all his different pockets. He was so drunk he could barely stand, and he nearly fell off of the bus every time the door opened. Someone in the back lit up and that got other people started and before you know it half the people in the back of the bus were smoking weed….but annnywaaayy, I’m getting off subject. So we take the bus up and look at the lounge. We thought we were going to be inside but it turns out we were actually in a giant tent. That had all of us a little worried. We weren’t supposed to be there just yet and we didn’t want to get in the crew’s way so we left for the cabin.
The driveway at the cabin in pretty much a straight drop off down a huge hill so we had to park our cars at the bottom of the mountain, squish everyone into the jeep, drive up to the road above the cabin, and then carry everything down the hill in snow up to our thighs. Anja fell in a hole waist deep with her giant bags lol We had a private party for a guest from out of town. He had amazing catering and the swag they were giving out was “off the hook” as Brooke put it lol We got clothes and snow gear and free massages and a bunch of other stuff that I know I’m forgetting. Our host was really nice and the other guests at the party were all really cool too. I was so bummed I couldn’t bring my camera because it was the type of party no one will believe I went to without pictures.
