La Caille
All term long we have been learning a lot about ettiquette in our foods class so as a final assignment we all took a field trip to this fancy restaraunt called La Caille. It's like $80 a plate and it's one of the only 5 star resteraunts in the entire state. I dont really like fancy stuff like that because it reminds me of going to grandma Carol's house. They are obsessed with manners and people's last name and breeding and crap. They make you do debutant things....ew it's so annoying. Anyway I was mostly just going because I wanted to skip school and because it's french so I wanted to see what that was like. Gotta represent. Plus dad said he would come as a chaperone. He's never around and when he is all we do is fight. I really miss him and I want to spend time with him really bad. We had to wear formal stuff so mom took me shopping and we bought this black velvet dress. It's kind of short but I like shorter dresses better anyway. The long ones twist around my ankles and make me trip. Jamie came over and did my hair and make up for me like she always does on special occassions. I picked Manda to sit at our table so it was just me her and dad.
We got there a little early so we walked around outside for a little bit. We heard they had a llama so we went looking for it. There were flowers everywhere and swans and peacocks and little bridges and stuff. We didn't see the llama though. Then they told everyone we had to go inside. It's like this french cottage kind of place and when we got inside we were in a huge lobby. The whole inside is really pretty. It has chandeliers, vaulted cielings, and frosted windows. There was a huge fireplace. A waitress dressed like a wench led us up to this lofty looking area in a candle lit dining room and seated us. There were white christmas lights and a candle on every table. It was still pretty dark. The table was set pretty with all the different silverware, even the butter was fancy. They carved it into a bunch of little flowers.
First we had huge fluffy buttery rolls, then they brought us salad. After that they brought escargot. I have never had it before but our teacher told us we should try it. My dad being the Scottish man that he is, said he wouldn't eat it. I told him to quit being a baby and to try it because I'm half french and french people eat escargot. He said ok on the count of three. So he pretended to put it to his mouth, I ate mine, and Amanda put hers in her mouth then spit it back out. Honestly I don't think it's that bad. I could only taste the butter and garlic. I'm not in a hurry to eat them again but it didn't kill me. After the escargot they brought us sorbet to "cleanse our palates". We were sitting right by a big balcony window so we could see the peacocks dancing around outside of it. Finally they brought our food! I had some vegetables and a chunk of cow so big it was hanging over the edges of my plate. I couldn't finish it and dad wouldn't eat any because I like my meat really rare so I had to get a box.
Then they brought us this flaming ice cream thing. It had alcohol in it but it burns out when you light it on fire. Vickie's mom (I used to be friends with Vickie in 7th grade but Manda wont let me hang out with her anymore) didn't get hers lit and had a couple so she ended up drunk on the bus home and she's not allowed to chaperone anymore. I felt really bad for Vickie because I bet she was way embarassed. Amanda thinks it's sick how sloppy she was and says that's the reason we can't hang out with Vickie. She has no class. I felt so bad when we got off the bus and I could tell Vickie was way embarassed and she was crying and everyone was talking crap about her and her mom. I wanted to go help her but I couldnt cuz by then Amanda started puking everywhere. Besides, it's like we were never even friends. I haven't talked to her since I started hanging out with SBC and I can't even look at her life anymore. It's crazy. I know mine is too but people don't see that. They believe the image that dad makes us put out there. I can't risk it just to help her.
